Update on my Sullivan Catskills Photography Projects https://richklein.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/5/summer-brings-exhibits-markets-more As summer 2017 gets underway tomorrow, want to share a little about what projects I've been working on and where you can find me (and my work) in the next few months.

1-- The Catskill Art Society in Livingston Manor has a members exhibit opening May 27 and running through June 25. I have a piece on exhibit and hope you check out all the great local artists.

2 -- I am helping to curate an exhibit opening June 16 at the Liberty Museum and Art Gallery. The theme is "Barns of the Catskills." It will include photos, paintings, architectural drawings and more.

3 -- A few signed copies of my book, The Catskills of Sullivan County, along with some fine art prints, are available for purchase at Jeff Junction in Jeffersonville, NY.

4-- I am shooting for two great local businesses: The Fosterdale Motor Lodge, which will have a new website up in a few weeks, and The Fat Lady Cafe in Kauneonga Lake, where I am shooting delicious dishes, kitchen and dining scenes and more for their Facebook page.  You can also find me shooting the local music scene, sports and other community events.

5-- Rich Klein New York Photography just shot a fun newborn photography session with a lovely family from Liberty, NY. They were smart to choose the historic Stone Arch Bridge in Kenoza Lake as a backdrop. Once I get client clearance, hope to post a few proofs.

6-- Since April, I've been a freelance photographer and reporter for the Sullivan County Democrat. Many don't know that I started my career as a political writer/editor and later as a daily newspaper sports writer. But now I get to shoot and write -- and it's been a blast. And really looking forward to photographing two significant Memorial Day parades/events - one in Liberty and the other in Wurtsboro.

7-- With many flea markets and farmer's markets opening this weekend, I expect to be selling photographs and possibly some books throughout the summer around Sullivan County. Visit Rich Klein and Rich Klein New York Photography as well as The Catskills of Sullivan County on Facebook for my schedule. And I would love to meet anyone who has bought my books online..so please get in touch ([email protected]) so we can meet and so I can thank you with a discount on prints. I'd be honored as well to sign books and prints.

New Photography Book Showcasing Sullivan County’s Catskills Now Available

Bethel, NY, October 12, 2016  – Town of Bethel resident Rich Klein has just published his second photography book entitled, The Catskills of Sullivan County: A Photography Journey.

The 100-page book contains photographs taken between 2013 and 2016 from around Sullivan County. It includes many landscapes, historic buildings, wildlife and a few elect shots of local events.

The book can be purchased here and will soon be available via Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Fine art prints from the book can be purchased at www.richklein.zenfolio.com.

Klein started coming to the region as a toddler in the early 1960s, visiting his paternal grandparents at The Huff House in Roscoe. His father, Robert, went to Ten Mile River Scout Camp in Narrowsburg in the late 1930s -- then became good friends with Eddie Fisher, who he met at Grossinger’s in the mid 1940s. His mother,Gerri, spent many childhood summers at a small hotel in Monticello.

Klein and his sister Patti attended Camp Kennybrook in Monticello in 1967 and 1968. And, from 1969 through 1977, the family attended Camp Ma-Ho-Ge on Silver Lake in Bethel. His parents worked at both camps in exchange for free tuition.

“When I moved to Smallwood full time in 2006, I realized that the incredible beauty of the region remained largely unchanged -- even though the old economy had changed after the death of the Borscht Belt era.”

Klein, a member of the steering committee of the newly formed Bethel Council of the Arts, added:

“I could not think of a better time to publish a book like this. Sullivan County is getting well deserved attention again as a leading tourist destination and I hope my book does its part to bring the masses back to the region.”

This is the second photography book by Klein, who grew up in Massapequa Park on Long Island and graduated from SUNY-New Paltz with a B.S. in English/Journalism.  In late 2014, he

co-authored Massapequa: A Pictorial History Through The Eyes of Baby Boomers and that led to multiple, month-long  photography exhibits in Nassau County in 2015 and 2016. His work is also on permanent display at Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care in Massapequa.

Klein, owner of Rich Klein New York Photography, has also photographed a variety of Sullivan County events including Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meetings and a fundraiser at The Arnold House. He also photographed the Allyson Whitney Foundation 5K Race in Kauneonga Lake earlier this year -- and included two of his favorite race photos in the book. He has been hired to shoot engagement sessions, weddings and boudoir and also enjoys street and concert photography.

Rich Klein New York Photography Updates - November 2015 https://richklein.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/10/rich-klein-new-york-photography-updates---november-2015 Shot November 10, 2014

Greetings from the gorgeous Catskill Mountains where the leaves have mostly fallen but some vivid oranges and yellows are giving us a great, final foliage show before the cold air sets in for good.

So much exciting news to share as we near the end of 2015:

1-- The book that I co-authored with Lisa Glass, Massapequa: A Pictorial History Through The Eyes of Baby Boomers, is now on the shelves of our hometown Barnes & Noble. It took as almost a year but we are thrilled. The book can also be purchased via Amazon here. This will be the first full holiday season that the book will be available. Get your copy online or email [email protected] to arrange for pickup in Massapequa Park while supplies last.

2-- Honored to be the official photographer for the Annual Meeting/Holiday Party of the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce on November 19th. Here's one of my shots from last year. Email [email protected] if you have a corporate event that you want photographed.

3-- I will be exhibiting fine art prints with other artists on November 20, 2015 as part of the Town of Oyster Bay Rotational Art Exhibit preview for 2016. That allows business owners from around Long Island to select my photography for display in their offices and stores.  For starters, in January 2016, I'm exhibiting at Farmingdale Public Library  with the coauthor of my book.

Sunset over Port Washington, NY

4--  Beginning In late November, Lisa Glass and I will have a  fine art photography exhibit at a major healthcare facility on Long Island.  Official announcement coming soon. UPDATE:  We have been selected by GoHealth Urgent Care for their first ever photography installation, in Massapequa, New York.

5--  I am now booking engagement sessions and weddings for Spring/Summer/Fall 2016 in Sullivan County's Catskills and throughout the Hudson Valley, Long Island, northern New Jersey, Westchester/Rockland and NYC. We are also available in northeast Pennsylvania and the southwest area of Connecticut.

Please visit www.richkleinNY.com for our three packages. To reserve a date and start a conversation about your event, please email [email protected]

6-- If you are in a rock band, jazz band, acapella chorus..we shoot stills and videos of your group and your gigs.

Finally, below is a slideshow of my favorite 100 prints from the past few years. If you click on "Visit Gallery" during the video, you can view, share and purchase the photographs. They make great holiday gifts and we have many sizes to choose from.

Thanks so much for all your support this year. It means the world to me and I'm grateful every day.

The Story of Our Massapequa Fine Art Photography Book https://richklein.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/5/the-story-of-our-massapequa-fine-art-photography-book About two years ago, I approached my grammar school friend, Lisa Glass, and suggested that we team up and publish a photography book about our hometown of Massapequa, New York. That's the well known area of Long island for those of you who don't know.

After some personal issues that hit both of us slowed us down in 2013, we started shooting sites around town in 2014. Then we began the furious process of designing the book and getting it off to our printer.

The book, Massapequa: A Pictorial History Through The Eyes of Baby Boomers, was self published and arrived at Lisa's door on December 22, 2014. Since then, we have sold nearly 200 copies (without Amazon or Barnes & Noble). But beyond the book, we have been humbled by the interest in our project.

Our Facebook page focused on the book will likely hit 1,000 members this year. The Town of Oyster Bay took notice of the book and has sponsored us thus far in three exhibits. And, when our first exhibit went up in February 2015, a local columnist visited and wrote an article about our project.

In May 2015, we opened two month long concurrent exhibits: one at a branch of our hometown library and the other at the Town of Oyster Bay Public Works Building in Syosset, NY, which features our fine art photographs from other areas of Long Island. And in August 2015, we'll open another exhibit at Astoria Bank in Massapequa Park, just a few blocks from where we both grew up.

On May 14, 2015, we'll also be discussing our book at the Bar Harbour branch of the Massapequa Public Library along with some of those essayists who contributed to the book.

We're humbled that the book has given us the opportunity to exhibit our work in your hometown and beyond. And we've been moved by the many heartfelt testimonials about the book that has surely revived great childhood memories for so many baby boomers who grew up in Massapequa.

TWO MASSAPEQUA PHOTOGRAPHERS SHOWCASE BABY BOOMER YEARS IN MASSAPEQUA IN NEW BOOK

Massapequa Park, NY, April 28, 2015 -- Two photographers who graduated from Alfred G. Berner in 1979 will talk about their new fine art book – Massapequa: A Pictorial History Though The Eyes of Baby Boomers -- at a May 14 event here. It will be held from 7 pm to 8 pm at the Bar Harbour branch of the Massapequa Public Library.

Rich Klein and Lisa Glass, both 54, will be joined on stage by other Pequa boomers, including Wade Preston (who starred in “Movin’ Out” on Broadway) and Tom Terwilliger, a former Mr. America, author, and success coach. Both wrote poignant essays in the book about growing up here.

Preston, who warmed up many times for Billy Joel, is expected to perform at the beginning of the event and later talk about his essay, along with Terwilliger.

The book, published in late December 2014, is available at the library and also for purchase at www.facebook.com/massapequabook or by emailing your request to [email protected].

Fine art photos shot exclusively for the book by Glass and Klein -- previously on display in the Westfield Sunrise Mall - will now be on exhibit at the Central Avenue branch of the Massapequa Library from May 1 through May 31.

SUNNYSIDE PHOTOGRAPHER SHOWING WORK AT NEW

QUEENS URBAN MARKET ON SATURDAYS

LONG ISLAND CITY, OCTOBER 18 - Sunnyside resident Rich Klein is displaying some of his fine art photos each Saturday at the new Queens Urban Market that opened October 18-19 in the Standard Motors Building in Long Island City. Visitors to the market can view his work just outside the interior doors of COFFEED. The prints on display are all for sale and can be purchased directly from his website at www.richklein.zenfolio.com.

Klein, 52, is a photographer / videographer who creates compelling images of city and country scenery around New York State, where he has lived all his life.

“Billy Joel nailed it with New York State of Mind,’ Klein said. “I’ve been blessed to have lived near the beaches of Long Island (Massapequa), in the gorgeous Shawangunks (New Paltz) and Catskill Mountains (Bethel), overlooking the Hudson River in Westchester (Irvington), above one of the Finger Lakes (Ithaca) and in three different neighborhoods of Manhattan. I’ve loved New York all my life and now I try to show that love with my cameras.”

A recent Queens transplant, he now shoots increasingly in Sunnyside, Long Island City and Astoria. He also admits to a love affair with the 59th Street Bridge, shooting it often from both sides of the East River and capturing the beautiful city views while stuck in traffic.

Klein is also collaborating with a baby boomer classmate on a coffee table book: “Massapequa: A Pictorial History Through The Eyes of Baby Boomers." The book will explore life in the notable Long Island, NY town from the 1950's through early 1980's and will be available in Summer 2014.

Klein sells his fine art prints online at www.RichKlein.zenfolio.com.

Central Park Photo Walk https://richklein.zenfolio.com/blog/2013/9/central-park A walk through Central Park on September 5, 2013 did wonders for my soul as I wondered through this oasis on a sunlit New York City day. I started shooting along the Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir near 86th Street, then the Belvedere Castle (built in 1919) and finally The Ramble, where I met some "professional" birdwatchers. I have not been much of a bird watcher -- or bird photographer -- but today I got hooked.

Even when I wasn't shooting, I truly enjoyed the music they were making around me. And when one or two finally flew from a tall tree into high grass and sticks, I was able to get a few shots off. Was it an Oriole or Red Robin? Still doing the research. But either way, one of them stood still just long enough to get some of my best work done. Aside from a few other friendly creatures, just taking shots of the winding walkways was a pleasure as many are lined with beautiful stones. The history behind the creation of Central Park is fascinating and I urge all visitors to New York to spend considerable time there. You simply don't feel like you are in a city at all and that's what makes it extra special.

To view my Central Park gallery, please click here. I'd be equally honored if you shared the prints or this  gallery on social media (easy to do) and even more honored if you purchased any of the prints using our simple online ordering system. (Don't worry - the watermarks you see online disappear when you place an order). Finally, please leave any comments below or on any other social media channel where this post appears as well as in our guestbook at www.RichKlein.zenfolio.com.

Thank you again for your support of my work.
